- Synthesizer for generation of artificial songs and calls by mouse drawing of the parameter evolution (fundamental frequency, envelope, harmonics, frequency and amplitude modulation)
- Automatic harddisk recording for long term monitoring based on a frequency selective trigger
- Automatic Response option for automated playback experiments base on real-time classification and re-synthesis
- and much more ... (see detailed list of functions)
|
Avisoft-SASLab Pro is easy to use:
|
- The easy and intuitive operation of the Avisoft-SASLab is supported by an online help system.
- Context sensitive help messages reduce the need to consult the printed manual.
|
Avisoft-SASLab Pro is fast:
|
- Spectrogram computation is very fast.
- The 2-channel real-time spectrograph runs at sampling rates up to 500 kHz (with Avisoft-UltraSoundGate)!
|
System Requirements
|
- IBM-compatible PC, Pentium 133MHz or higher
- At least 32MB of RAM
- Free harddisk space: > 10MB
- VGA-Display with at least 256 colors (resolution of at least 800*600 is recommended)
- Soundcard compatible to Windows (MME-driver required)
- Operating system: Windows95, Windows98, Windows ME or WindowsNT/2000/XP
The USB-dongle version of Avisoft-SASLab Pro can also be used under MacOS 9.x with Virtual PC 3.0 or higher. However, the real-time spectrogram display may be of course a little sluggy at high sampling rates.

What the experts say
|
"The combination of these features means that the software pretty much lives up to the claims made in the advertising flyer that it is easy and intuitive to use." ... "Avisoft provides cheap, powerful sound analysis for PC's." ... "If you already have an IBM-compatible computer of the appropriate specification, then Avisoft is a most attractive package."
Peter K. McGregor, Nottingham University and Jo Holland, University of Copenhagen: Review in Animal Behaviour, 1995, Vol 50, No 10
"I find Avisoft is a joy to use. The facility and speed with which the user can assess long recordings using the real-time display, prepare and print sonograms and other spectra quickly or export them to other Windows applications, while in full control of the analysis and display parameters, makes this an invaluable programme for bioacoustic research and education."
Richard Ranft, National Sound Archive London: Review in Bioacoustics 1995, Vol. 6, No 3
"IĆve been looking for a number of years for a software package that allows the user to simply rub out superfluous portions of the sonogram and with SASLab Pro I have finally found one."

Examples of Avisoft-SASLab Pro measurement and classification facilities
|
Power spectrum with automatically generated labels showing peak frequency and relative amplitude
Spectrogram with Automatic Parameter Measurements showing start frequency, end frequency and maximum peak frequency for each element.
Numeric display of the Automatic Parameter Measurements of the spectrogram shown above.
Histogram of the distribution of start frequencies (resolution=200Hz, n=13)
Parameter measurements imported into an Excel spreadsheet (by pasting from clipboard or by automatic DDE transfer).
Element classification based on start frequency and element duration.
Element type sequence and element type statistics pasted from clipboard.
3D-Scatterplot showing automatically classified elements together with the boundaries used for classification. Classification is based on peak frequency at start, frequency change from start to end (parameter named 'derived1') and element duration.

Automatic Response Option
|
The Automatic Response option of Avisoft-SASLab Pro allows you to create advanced playback or learning experiments:
|
Synthesizer
|
The integrated Graphic Synthesizer is able to generate artificial sounds and to modify natural sounds:
Spectrogram of a natural nightingale song
Spectrogram of the re-synthesized song with some modifications (a harmonic has been added to the second element and a frequency modulation has been applied to the third element).
Fundamental frequency and amplitude envelope taken from the natural song spectrogram were used to re-synthesize the song.
Spectrogram of a natural penguin song.
Spectrogram of the re-synthesized penguin song with the amplitude of the second harmonic decreased and the third harmonic increased.
|
Multichannel Analysis
|
SASLab Pro can process multi-channel files containing up to 8 channels. These files may have been recorded by Avisoft-RECORDER or by other third-party recording equipment (RAW multichannel files can be imported into SASLab Pro)
4-channel file display
Multichannel cross-correlation analysis showing the points of maximum correlation between all 4 channels (for time of arrivial measurements)
